The Mata de València in Àneu is the most important fir tree forest in the southern part of Europe due to its size and excellent preservation. It is located right at the beginning of the conservation area of the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. This dense and wild forest covers an area of 774 hectares and is home to fir trees over 15 meters tall, as well as red and black pine trees, making it a mature forest.

The Mata de València is a magical place. It seems like an enchanted forest where gnomes and fairies could appear at any moment. This excursion is highly recommended for all ages, as it has little elevation gain.

The Excursion:

We will start the excursion at the Gerdar refuge and venture into the forest towards the Gerber waterfall. We will follow a beautiful circular route that will bring us back to the starting point.
