Discover the Sant Maurici National Park in winter!
The Aigüestortes and Lake Sant Maurici National Park is the only national park in Catalonia. The landscape is of high mountain with an impressive relief, which was sculpted by the glaciers that occupied these valleys about 50,000 years ago. Water, with nearly 200 lakes and countless streams, takes center stage. A great biodiversity of animal and plant species coexist in this environment, giving life to this unique protected natural space in southern Europe.
Visiting the park in winter with snowshoes is a fun and safe way to discover the spectacular snowy landscape. We can also find traces left by animals in the snow and enjoy the serenity that nature conveys during the winter rest.
The Excursion:
We will depart from the village of Espot, where we will take a 4×4 taxi that will take us to Lake Sant Maurici, and from there we will start the snowshoe excursion to Lake Ratera, passing by the waterfall of the same name. One of our qualified interpretive guides from the National Park will guide and entertain us during the excursion with all kinds of curiosities about the park. Once the route is finished, the 4×4 taxis will pick us up to take us back to the village of Espot.
